Query Manager Log

Postby Quatchy » Wed Aug 21, 2013 11:32 am

Hello guys,

looking for a free DBVisualizer alternative i stumbled upon DBeaver. Well, i did stumple upon SQuirreL first but lets leave that fact out. I love the look and feel and the feature set of DBeaver. Even better i might be able to explain and get my colleagues to use it.

The thing I cant seem to get to work is a seesion-wide persistent Query-Manager. So either there is some error in the program, I'm doing something wrong or its not yet implemented.

I cant find any errors in the error log. The log path is not write protected or anything and I did run DBeaver as Administrator priviliges just to rule it out.

I kinda need that feature... my colleagues won't like the idea of saving SQL scripts.

Thanks for the help!

Hello,

DBeaver has Query Manager log which is session-wide and can be configured to store logs in files. So I actually didn't understand the nature of your problem. Is it about query log viewing or about persistence?
I'll attach two screenshots with a sample query log and query manager configuration.

Thanks

The problem is the persistence. The Query-Manager is working and logs all statements within the session. As soon as i close and reopen the program everything is gone. As you can see from the attachment i also turned on the logging for "metadata read". So the first entries are brought up every time i open DBEaver. I've played around quite a bit with the options just to ensure im not doing something wrong.

Hope you can help. As i explained before there is no error shown in the error log.

Whatever the problem is i think im gonna stick with your program. I just love it.

There is nothing in error log because it is not a bug, it is lack of functionality.
Query manager writes log on disk but never reads it (due to performance/memory consumption issue - query log can be really huge).
You can open this log manually using Error Log view (there is "Import Log" function).

Actually we had plans to persist logs in lightweight embedded database - additionally it will allow to search in log. But as it is not very urgent task it is still not implemented.
Hopefully we'll return to it this autumn.

Kind regards,
Serge

Thanks a lot. I found the function to import the log. Seeing the functionality in other tools i probably jumped to the wrong conclusion on how the log should be read.

It would be great to see the log implemented in an embedded DB. I already made use of the search function within SQuirreL and i think it is a great feature but the lack of that one function won't let me stop using DBeaver.

Thanks for the great support!

Kind regards
