MS Access via UCanAccess

Postby thatSQLguy » Wed Mar 27, 2013 2:35 pm

All,

Having UCanAccess () for MS Acccess built into DBeaver might make it even more useful for DB-to-Desktop connectivity. It supports MS Access 2000 to 2010, and 97 in read-only mode via the underlying Jackcess lib. What do you think?

Cheers

Hello,

Yes, currently BEaver doesn't have driver for SM Access (which is widely used).
I'll test this driver and if there won't be any problems with it it will be included in standard configuration.

Thanks for suggestion

Unfortunatelly I did not have time to add this driver in 2.1.1.
I've tested it a bit and found that it can't read some basic mdb files (demo databases from MS). Also I've found a cople of others MS Access drivers and all of them have some limitations so I didn't yet decided which one to include in standard DBeaver configuration.
Hopefully next version will have one..

Hi Serge,
you can report directly to me any problem about UCanaccess (which is the one jdbc access driver open source), if you decide to continue the testing:
UCanAccess needs a GUI ;-).
UCanAccess works by default in memory and with large databases (e.g., some demo databases from MS) you have to set Driver Property memory=false.
Maybe that was the problem?
@thatSQLguy Thank you for your interest in my project!

I have fixed this bug (index name escaping) and released UCanAccess0.1.0 (with other known problems solved).
UCanaccess0.1.0 can execute most of the Access Query in the demo database.
Thank you.

Hi,
it's a bit verbose jackcess warning, you may avoid this simply adding log4j.jar to the classpath.
Thanks

Also I will change programmatically this default behaviour in UCanAccess0.1.1 (disabling warning log by default)

java.util.logging.Logger logger = java.util.logging.Logger.getLogger("com.healthmarketscience.jackcess");
logger.setLevel(Level.SEVERE);

UCanAccess0.1.1 will be released before the end of April.
