Apple OSX .app

Postby olfway » Fri Feb 10, 2012 10:03 am

Hello

It would be fantastic if osx distrib would be .app, not a folder

i'm not sure if that's easy to do in build scripts but you can use something like http://www.yoursway.com/free/#repackager for that

I'd wish to make fancy MacOS distribution but it's not that simple.
Currently our build machine running under FreeBSD. Possibly it will be some kind of Linux in future.
Anyway, I didn't find a way to make dmg files on any OS except MacOS, it seems to be somehow closed by Apple license. BTW Yoursway repackager works only on MacOS too. Generally it's a ridiculous situation - I can easily make Windows installers on any OS but can't do Mac installer anywhere but Mac.
Probably in a future we'll be able to perform distributed build on different OSes but not now. We have very limited resources..

Thanks for request anyway, we'll do it as soon as it will become possible )

Hmm. I'll try to use this tool to prepare MacOS distribution of next version. Or probably I'll make EA version to test this feature.

Actually I'm not MacOS guy so I'm not sure what kind of distribution is better. I always thought that .dmg is a classic format for MacOS software redistribution.

Thanks for your assistance!

While on the subject, the text-editing keybindings on the Mac app are wrong.
They seem to be the standard Windows ones.
I don't know if it's a matter of writing a platform-specific bindings file or simply turning off override of the standard text-widget provided bindings on OS X, but fixing this would go a long way towards making the application more livable on OS X. I guess we can modify them manually, but that gets old..
