Autocomplete for Templates

Postby rrsolver » Mon Aug 31, 2015 6:24 pm

Is it possible to use autocomplete for templates?

Example use case:

I have the following templates

rev_by_hour_past_week
rev_by_hour_past_month
rev_by_hour_past_24_hours

if i type rev_by_hour and press control-shift-space (different hot-key then normal auto-complete) it would display the 3 templates as well as information about each (description and entire template) in a way similar to what auto-complete currently does.

That could be a good feature, I think. But why do you think that it should use different hot-key?
For me standard ctrl+space looks better.

Agreed.
One problem is that ctrl+shift+space is already reserved for words completion (so-called "hippie autocomplete").
And I believe that some people uses it in current form.

I didn't even know about hippie auto-complete. What does it do? Does it complete sql keywords?

Anyways moving on in that case how about shift-tab? That way its related to the template feature. tab to complete template, shift-tab to auto-complete template.

Regarding ctrl-shift-space - just try it. It is a standard Eclipse shortcut.
It completes word trying to find any identifiers matching you input in all open editors.

I like shift-tab.
